An art display by Fine Arts Instructor Brian Dumm is currently on display at the Connors Family Fine Arts Center. This exhibit, titled “Bear on a Bike,” will run through Sept. 25.
“I wanted to summarize the multiple paths that my art journey has taken me on,” said Dumm.
“There are pieces that focus on my traditional training in oils, charcoal, pencil, etc. and then there are pieces that exhibit a shift to contemporary mediums such as digital drawing/painting, print making and pyrography.”
Dumm designed the University’s new athletics logo, which was unveiled in June.
“We have seen his creativity firsthand through his design of the Red Wolves logo,” said Art Remillard, Dean of the School of STEAM. “Even before meeting him, I knew of Brian through his many murals in Ebensburg, including his work along the Ghost Town Trail and at the Cambria County Courthouse.”
Dumm’s work has been featured in 30 exhibits over the course of his 20-year career.
“Every opportunity to exhibit artwork is a blessing,” Dumm said. “When you create art that you want to share with the world, it’s your way of leaving a mark, and making an impact.”
Dumm, who grew up in Ebensburg, said he did not have many opportunities to visit art galleries as a child. He said he had difficulty finding inspiration for his artwork.
He believes that the increased accessibility of art today has given younger generations more opportunities to find ideas for their work.
“‘Bear on a Bike’ is an analogy that I use to convey the stifling of creativity,” said Dumm. “A bear by nature pursues what he wants and faces challenges without hesitation.
“Don’t confine yourself or your passions to riding a bicycle for others’ amusement like a circus bear. Be all the bear you can be.”
