Junior field hockey player Eva Valentini has been named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association’s 2023 Watch List. This list showcases the top candidates for NFHCA All-American honors.
She is one of 131 Division I student-athletes on the list.
Valentini had two goals and an assist in a 3-1 win against Bellarmine last week. She is a two-time All-NEC selection (2021 and 2022).
The field hockey team is off to a great start this fall. SFU opened the season with three straight wins.
Valentini, a center back, enters this week’s action with 22 goals and 13 assists in her SFU career. In addition to excelling on the field, she has also been named to the Academic All-District Team and Dean’s List at SFU each of the last two years.
“It’s very exciting to be on the watchlist, but I feel like this wouldn’t be possible without the whole team,” said the team captain and native of Argentina.
“We are all on the same page, we trust each other, and we are all hoping to have a great season. I am just one of 11 players on that field and I would not be able to be on that list without the help and support of my team.”
SFU head field hockey coach Betta Ceretta said that Valentini’s selection to the watch list shows the strides that she has made, but also the improvement of the Red Flash program overall.
“It is very exciting and important to have a player on the watch list because it shows the growth in our program, allows us to get more visibility through social media, and shows that we have good players.”
