SGA budget cuts are causing hits to be taken across all SFU clubs and Greek organizations.
“With budget cuts, we had to cut a fair amount of what was approved for the 2026-27 budget,” said Sen. Breanna Kern. “Around 30 percent.”
The extent of the budget cuts varies by organization based on how active they are around campus. Clubs are expected to hold events during the fall and spring, as well as fundraisers, to receive full SGA funding.
Deductions between 1 and 5 percent will be made if a club misses one of these expected duties. A 50 percent deduction with take effect if a club fails to complete all its expected duties.
Senators reviewed various clubs’ social media accounts to find evidence that expected duties were being fulfilled, even if they were not registered through Engage.
Following this review, the budget for the 2026-27 academic year was passed.
SGA itself still has excess funds that were not used during the current academic year. These funds will not transfer over to next year.
SGA President Cole Weiland proposed using this money for a Residence Life-partnered initiative to add new water fountains to several residence halls.
This initiative was backed with unanimous support. One senator remarked that in her current dorm hall, she needs to “walk downstairs just to refill [her] water.”
Donut Heaven will run from April 30-May 2.
