SFU celebrated National Library Week last week (April 19-25).
The theme of the weeklong celebration was “Find Your Joy” and people were encouraged to discover what sparks joy for them in a library setting.
National Library Week coincided with National Poetry Month and the SFU Library hosted a poetry walk for students, during which students read poems throughout the building.
SFU Library Director Misti Smith said that she and her staff work hard to make students feel welcome in their building. They are committed to providing students with any assistance they need to succeed in their courses.
“It is wonderful that libraries exist,” said Smith. “Without them, we would not have the knowledge, the education nor the technology that we do today.”
Kennedy Barbin, a junior Public Health major, shared why she loves the library.
“The library is usually never busy,” said Barbin. “I can focus on my schoolwork or meet up with friends.”
Madyn Allison, a junior English and Secondary Education major, also enjoys her frequent trips to the campus library.
“I love the library because I am surrounded by books,” said Allison. “It is a place I can go to both get help and to relax.
“My Education professors are also there for me to visit!”
Smith said her staff works hard to stay abreast of the latest developments in artificial intelligence and other areas of technology in order to serve SFU’s students well.
“We are always evolving to help students access information.”
