The swim team dominated Millersville in a 182-80 victory on Senior Day on Oct. 19 at the Stokes Natatorium, securing first or second-place finishes in every event.
Seniors Anna Bernasconi, Sara Blanco, Amalia Bradburn, Maddie Dando, Inde Patterson, Aurem Pifarre, Taylor Sies, Ava Silva and Baily Trettel were honored before the meet.
“It’s been such an amazing journey with this team,” said Silva. “Ending my last home meet with a win made it even more special.”
The Red Flash opened the meet with a thrilling victory in the 200-yard medley relay, clocking in at 1:47.90 – just one second shy of breaking the pool record. The relay team included Bernasconi, Bridget Kurtzweil, Taylor Weth and Oksana Horova.
SFU head coach Phil Hurley was proud of his team’s performance.
“The medley relay was so close to the pool record, which shows just how hard they’ve worked all season. The whole team really stepped up today.”
Blanco finished first in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:59.82, while Patterson paced the field in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.13.
In a close 200-yard individual medley race, Bradburn finished second with a time of 2:16.28, just one second off the pool record.
“Today was really emotional,” said Blanco. “It feels great to go out with such a
strong performance, not just for me, but for the entire team.”
Bernasconi, Horova, Reegan Brown and Kathryn Tanis closed the meet with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay at 1:38.93, sealing a memorable Senior Day victory.
“It was a special day, especially for the seniors,” said Hurley. “They’ve contributed so much to this program and they left it all in the pool today.”
