The women’s volleyball team rallied to defeat Allegheny, 3-2, on Oct. 17.
Alexandra Sappia led the Red Wolves to the victory, delivering eight service aces to help SFU erase a 2-1 deficit.
“Our coach and scout (report) said that a big part of this game would come down to serving, and being strong with my serves helped a lot,” said Sappia.
SFUs’ relentless ball-tracking also helped them secure the win. Case in point: freshman outside hitter Madison Roman saving a ball eight feet out of bounds that ended with a point for SFU.
“Building off that intensity will help us,” said head coach Sara Spielvogel. “We chased multiple balls down that may have given up points.”
Freshman Rylan Crowell (13) and redshirt senior Ava Holden (10) both finished the match with double figures in kills. Holden hit .600, recording just one error on 15 attacks. Freshman Madison Roman recorded a team-high 16 digs.
“It’s a lot about consistency for us,” said Spielvogel. “With 15 freshmen, there will be freshman mistakes, but tonight they did not look like freshmen in big moments.”
SFU (8-10) returns to action at Franciscan on Oct. 21.
