A group of SFU students will travel to the Cayman Islands from Oct. 8-14 to learn more about international business practices.
Led by SSOB Professor and Dean Emeritus Randy Frye, this opportunity is available to members of the Saint Matthew’s Investment Club, as well as other SFU Business students. Space is limited to 12 students.
The trip will focus on finance, investment, travel and tourism, while also giving students the chance to experience the culture of the Cayman Islands. Students will visit the Cayman Islands’ Monetary Authority and meet with professionals in the business and finance industries.
The idea for the trip surfaced thanks to Frye’s professional connections. One of his colleagues, Belinda Blessitt Vincent, serves as Dean of the Division of Business and Finance at the University College of the Cayman Islands. Frye and Blessitt have worked together on business program reviews and developed a professional friendship.
Frye sees the Cayman Islands trip as a unique opportunity for SFU students because of the nation’s important role in international banking and finance.
Junior Jelana Boldizar is one of the students who will make the trip. She said it is another opportunity to combine her love of traveling with her education. Boldizar participated in the SSOB’s trip to London during the spring semester.
“I am most excited about experiencing the culture,” said the Communications and Spanish double-major.
Boldizar said she is also looking forward to expanding her understanding of finance.
Frye said that the experience will help students develop a better understanding of international financial systems; allow them to appreciate different business practices; and provide an opportunity to explore the relationship between tourism and the economy.
