The football team suffered a 23-20 loss to Wagner in the second of a four-game homestand on Nov. 1.
Wagner’s Nick Romero kicked a 28-yard field goal on the last play of the game to propel the Seahawks to the victory.
The stands at DeGol Field were filled with more than 1,000 fans and SFU and Wagner battled neck and neck throughout the afternoon.
Saint Francis came out hot, scoring a first-half touchdown when redshirt junior quarterback Nick Whitfield hit freshman Brandon London on a one-yard scoring pass. It was London’s first career catch and it spotted the Flash to a 7-0 lead.
SFU extended the lead to 10-0 later in the first half, but the team turned the ball over four times in the loss.
Red Flash running back Jordan Theodore had a stellar game, rushing for a career-high 121 yards. He also caught two passes and scored a touchdown on a 29-yard catch-and-run play. He caught a screen pass from Jeff Hoenstine, who replaced Whitfield at QB in the second half, on the scoring play.
Theodore became the first Saint Francis player to rush for more than 100 yards in a game this season.
Sophomore linebacker Colin Douglas had another strong game, making a career-high 11 tackles, picking off a pass, and forcing a fumble. Douglas currently ranks first in the NEC in fumbles forced and third in interceptions.
Kendric Council recorded seven tackles and a sack. Sophomore Zach Betts added five stops and a sack.
The Seahawks scored 13 unanswered points in their come-from-behind victory.
SFU’s Mac Plummer booted field goals of 27 and 21 yards in the game. His 21-yarder came with 1:57 remaining and tied the game at 20-20.
The Seahawks, however, generated a 57-yard drive in the final minutes and Romero’s 28-yard field goal as time expired gave the visitors the victory.
The Red Flash are back in action at home against Mercyhurst on Nov. 8. The two teams will kick off at noon.
