Football team plays Spring Game on Saturday

The football team will play its annual Spring Game on April 13 at noon.

“This is an opportunity to see how players handle our new schemes and to see how our new coaches interact with their players,” said head coach Chris Villarrial.

“It is also a time for the guys to compete against each other and show what they have developed in a controlled, game-simulated environment.”

Senior offensive lineman Christian Eubanks returns as one of the leaders on the offensive side of the ball in 2019. He earned second-team All-Northeast Conference honors last season.

“I am most excited for the opportunity for both sides of the ball to show off their skills against great competition,” said Eubanks.

“We’ve done a great job of replacing the graduating seniors with young guys who are excited about embracing the challenge.”

The 2019 season will mark the 50th anniversary of the “Modern Era” SFU Football.

The team will celebrate this anniversary with a ceremony in conjunction with its home game against Columbia University in September.

“The most exciting thing to see during the spring game is how guys handle pressure situations and to see how we are coming together as a team,” said Villarrial.

“I want to see the guys play excited and encourage each other, and build our team chemistry.”
