Three SFU students and two Shields School of Business faculty/staff members represented the University at the Enactus World Cup on Oct. 9-11 in San Jose, California.

Enactus stands for Entrepreneurs in Action for US (US meaning the local community, the U.S. and the world). Large corporations, including Walmart, Hershey’s and Unilever, sponsor the club.

Participating students present business development projects with an emphasis on improving the world through entrepreneurial action.

Amanda Balas, Alexis DeLullo and Emily Pollack represented SFU’s Enactus team in San Jose. They are the leaders of a new, grant-funded project that will assist high-risk job seekers in central Pennsylvania by providing them with professional development services, such as resume development, social media skills and interview training.

The initiative includes online “refresher” skills training and a work-clothing stipend for all who complete the certificate program.

“The idea came about while talking with my advisor about applying for the grant,” said Balas. “We were trying to come up with an idea that could help the Saint Francis community.”

SFU’s Enactus team has raised $4,000 to help schools in Guinea and collected $18,000 in donations for the Home Nursing Agency’s Healing Patch.

Team co-advisors Nicole Bauman and Kent Tonkin accompanied the students to California. Last spring, Bauman was inducted into the Sam Walton Fellow Hall of Fame.

“I have witnessed hundreds of students develop strong presentation skills, overcome fears of public speaking, and deliver flawless presentations on how their projects impacted and empowered individuals all over the world,” said Bauman.

“To me, working with these bright young men and women is not a job, it is a privilege.”
