After five of its last six games were decided by a touchdown or less, Saint Francis saved its best for last, defeating Central Connecticut, 49-14, to close out the 2023 season.
CCSU struck first on a 52-yard interception return for a touchdown by Luquay Washington. The Flash, however, would go on to score 49 straight en route to the victory.
The game marked the return of junior quarterback Cole Doyle from concussion protocol. The Glendale, California native turned in his best performance of the season with four touchdown passes, 253 passing yards and a 185.8 QB rating, all season-highs.
After the pick-six, Doyle led three straight drives that ended with touchdown passes. Two went to receiver Dawson Snyder and the other to running back Jordan Jackson.
Doyle would add a fourth touchdown pass on a 22-yard strike to Jake Bruno midway through the third quarter.
Doyle ends the year with 15 touchdown passes, 10 interceptions and 1,475 yards passing. He also ran for 359 yards and a touchdown and was the team’s third-leading rusher in 2023.
On the defensive side, Carter Glassmyer led the team in total tackles at CCSU with nine. He also recovered a fumble.
Glassmyer ends the year with 90 total tackles in nine games. He was recently named a Jerry Rice Award finalist. He is one of 22 finalists for the award and one of only two linebackers on the list.
The running back duo of Deondre Scott and Jordan Jackson finished 1-2 in rushing on the season. Both Jackson (536 rushing yards) and Scott (361) averaged better than five yards-per-carry and both players ran for four touchdowns.
Dawson Snyder finished the year as the top wide receiver. He piled up 718 of Saint Francis’ 1,915 total receiving yards and five of the team’s 20 receiving touchdowns.
Saint Francis ends the season with a 4-6 overall record and a 4-3 conference mark.
