Prospective student-athletes interested in the Shields School of Business got to hear about what it means to be a student-athlete at Saint Francis from current student-athletes at a recent open house.
Prospective students were given a chance to connect with current student-athletes and hear their stories at the event.
The panel was organized by John Miko, Dean of the Shields School of Business.
“When we recruit students, I don’t want to lie to them,” Miko said. “I want them to see if it’s a good fit for them. I don’t want to project something that’s not true.”
Miko said it’s more authentic to hear from an 18-year-old student-athlete who is currently enrolled at SFU, rather than an administrator or a faculty member telling prospective student-athletes and their families about what they can expect.
Freshman soccer player Lincoln Dom served on the panel. Dom said that being a student-athlete at SFU has taught him discipline both on the field and in the classroom.
“For most of them (prospective students), it was their first time talking to a Saint Francis student, and I feel we did a good job representing the student population,” Dom said.
