The Saint Francis men’s volleyball team won two matches against D’Youville last weekend, setting up a Northeast Conference showdown with FDU this weekend.
The Flash swept both matches at D’Youville to improve to 14-11 overall and 8-2 in the NEC.
“I was satisfied with how we played last weekend,” said senior outside hitter Cole Dorn.
Saint Francis currently ranks 26th in the NCAA and has won two straight matches after dropping three of four.
The Flash will close the regular season this weekend, hosting FDU (13-10, 7-3 NEC) for a pair of important NEC matches on Friday and Saturday at the Stokes Center.
The Knights dropped two matches to Maryland-Eastern Shore last weekend, allowing SFU to take over first place in the NEC standings.
Both SFU and FDU have already clinched berths in the upcoming NEC Tournament.
“The overall feeling going into playoffs is confidence,” said freshman libero Jack Wolgemuth. “That being said, the next two games are the most important of the season.
“We are competing against a very good FDU team – we are both fighting for home-court advantage come playoffs.”
Dorn tallied 15 kills, 14 digs and seven assisted blocks last weekend at D’Youville.
Wolgemuth added 17 digs to help the Red Flash defense.
“We have already clinched a playoff berth, so some weight is off our shoulders,” said Dorn.
“The rest of the team and I really want to host again. I believe that we have the best gym in the NEC and I would love to continue playing at home.”
Prior to Saturday’s match against FDU, the team’s seniors will be recognized for their contributions to the program.
“It is an important weekend for our seniors,” said Dorn. “Saturday will be the last guaranteed home game, so I know the guys that are graduating in a few weeks will want to go out on a high note.”
