SFU’s Super Smash Bros Ultimate (SSBU) Red Team is entering the semifinals with an undefeated record as the spring season winds down.
“Overall, I believe the team has performed exceptionally well this season,” said graduate student and captain of the team Carmen Lefoer.
Following a 7-0 regular season, the second-seeded team beat Brooklyn College and George Washington University in the playoff bracket to secure its spot in the semifinals against Five Towns College.
“Every player has demonstrated a strong commitment to improvement,” said Lefoer, “consistently putting in additional time and effort outside of practice.”
Team members include Lefoer, Nathaniel Sutton, Robin Jaber and Louis Kordish.
“I think we do so well as a team because of the way that we build each other up and our dedication to being the best we can together,” said Jaber, a junior Math major.
The team was the East One champions in the NACE league in the fall 2025 season, and it has its sights set on an ECAC championship this spring.
“One of the key areas we have focused on this season is strengthening our mentality, both before and during matches,” said Lefoer, “which has given us a competitive edge and allowed us to play at a high level.
“As we head into the semifinals against a very strong opponent, we are confident in our preparation and our ability to get the job done.”
