Nicole Bocox was named the head coach of the Red Flash field hockey program in March.
Bocox previously served as head coach at Cedar Crest (2025-26) and D’Youville (2023-24).
Since arriving on campus, she has emphasized accountability, effort and building a strong team both on and off the field.
“From day one, my focus has been on creating a culture where everyone is bought in and working toward the same goal,” said Bocox. “It’s about trust, effort and doing the little things right every single day.”
As the program transitions from the Division I to Division III level, players have noticed the intensity she brings to Loretto.
“She brings a lot of energy every day,” said Madilyn Donmoyer, a sophomore from Harrisburg. “You can tell she really cares about us, not just as players but as people too.”
Bocox has made it clear that success will not come easy this year. But she also points out that she wants her team to compete at a high level while also developing strong habits that it will carry throughout the season.
Two key elements of her coaching style are a focus on fundamentals and preparation. Whether it’s conditioning, stick work or game strategy, Bocox stresses the importance of being ready in every aspect of the game.
“I think the culture here is already established,” said the first-year head coach. “The girls here care deeply about success and each other.”
As a collegiate player, Bocox started her career at Saint Francis. She played a season at SFU in 2013, before transferring to King’s College. She graduated from King’s in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary and special education.
Bocox earned a master’s degree in sport management from Frostburg State in 2020.
The first-year Flash coach places a strong emphasis on communication and leadership.
“It’s not just about me as a coach,” Bocox said. “It’s about building leaders on the field who can support each other and keep the energy up during games.”
Bocox understands that building SFU’s Division III program will take time. She is focused on getting ready now, knowing it will pay off in the future.
“There’s a process to everything,” said Bocox. “We’re focused on getting better every day and building something that lasts.”
Donmoyer is excited to enter the next chapter of SFU field hockey with her new head coach.
“Expectations are still high for this upcoming season,” she said. “As a team, we really want to continue the standard we have built the last few years.”
