The men’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 overtime decision at Fairleigh Dickinson in the Northeast Conference Championship match on Nov. 16.
The Knights scored the conference title-clinching goal three minutes into overtime. SFU played the extra session down a player after being issued a red card late in the second half.
The title game appearance marked the ninth time that the Flash have played in the NEC championship. SFU closed the season with an 8-9-1 record.
SFU junior goalkeeper Diego Garciarena made six saves in the loss to FDU. Garciarena earned NEC Goalkeeper-of-the-Year honors last week before the start of the conference tournament. He is the first SFU men’s soccer player to win this award. Garciarena finished the season with 64 saves and a 1.28 goals-against-average.
