The Athletics Department has released the 2025 football schedule.
The 11-game schedule includes four non-conference games and seven Northeast Conference match-ups. Head coach Chris Villarial’s team will play five games at home and six on the road.
The Red Flash kick off the season on Aug. 28 with a road battle against Louisiana-Monroe out of the Sun Belt Conference. Following the game against the WarHawks, SFU visits Buffalo to take on the Bulls, a Mid-American Conference team, on Sept. 6.
Last September, the Flash defeated MAC member Kent State, 23-17, on the road. It marked SFU’s first-ever win over a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) opponent.
On Sept. 20, SFU hosts Delaware State at DeGol Field. The Hornets will be led by their new head coach, DeSean Jackson. Last September, the Red Flash posted a 28-17 come-from-behind victory over DSU on the road.
September closes with a trip to Bucknell on Sept. 27. The two Pennsylvania schools separated by a two-and-a-half hour drive have never faced one another.
“We’ve got some tough road games early, but that’s what we want,” said running back Jordan Theodore. “It’s a chance to prove we can compete with anyone, anywhere.”
The NEC schedule opens on Sept. 13 at Central Connecticut State’s Jack Arute Field. SFU’s home games in NEC action are against Robert Morris (Oct. 25), Wagner (Nov. 1), Mercyhurst (Nov. 8) and LIU (Nov. 15).
“Our mindset is simple – protect home field and dominate our rivals,” said cornerback Mekhi Butler. “That Robert Morris game is circled on our calendar. We owe them one.”
SFU dropped a 17-0 decision to the Colonials in Pittsburgh last October.
The 2025 regular season closes with a game at Stonehill on Nov. 22. Four of SFU’s final five regular-season games are in Loretto.
“This stretch is where champions are made,” said running back Andrew Vines. “We have one goal – win the NEC and get to the playoffs. We’re locked in.”
