Students in SFU’s Fine Arts Program will perform the musical comedy “Anything Goes” in JFK Auditorium in April.
The run will include five shows from April 10-13.
Anything Goes follows a comical group of unique passengers sailing on the S.S. American between New York City and London. Throughout their journey, the characters embrace the concept of “anything goes” by acting on impulse, emotion and free will.
“I chose ‘Anything Goes’ because the roles in the play suit our students’ talents really well,” said Assistant Professor of Fine Arts Lance Mekeel, who is directing the show.
“The show provides a lot of opportunities for our actors to showcase their considerable theatrical skills.”
Mekeel said he typically develops a vision for performances that are supported by a thorough analysis of the text.
“My vision of ‘Anything Goes’ is that the play should be thought of as a luxury ballroom and that all of the characters have various agency and freedom – or lack thereof – to move about the ballroom.
“I look forward to seeing how much fun the cast will have delivering their performances to the audience,” said Mekeel.
The cast for the show includes Miranda Weiland (Reno Sweeney,) John Paul Caroff (Billy Crocker,) Drew Sill (Moonface Martin,) Brenna Kern (Hope Harcourt,) Matt Harris (Lord Evelyn Oakleigh,) Tessa Paluzzi (Erma,) Gavin Ross (Elisha Whitney,) Erin Golding (Mrs. Evangeline Harcourt,) Ava Rhoads (Purity,) Avery Beuiner-Lucas (Chasity,) Mae Schmidt (Charity,) Camilla Short (Virtue,) Anna Phelan (Captain,) Sydney Korbanic (Purser,) Ava Kozar (Spit,) and Sophia Whitmer (Dippy.) Ensemble includes Natalya Cann, Jedidiah Edwards, Joel Godisart, Kylie Innes, Stephen Jacobs, Alexandra Martorella, Olivia Miller and Ashely Morgan.
