The 2024 fall regular season for SFU’s Esports teams has ended and the playoffs have begun.
Out of the University’s 18 teams, eight of them advanced to the playoffs.
Sophomore Jalen Harriet, a member of of the Madden Grey Team, was one of two Madden players to make the playoffs. Both players won their opening-round playoff games before falling in the second round.
“I went 5-2 and ended up being the 16th seed,” said Harriet. “It’s a good base for my spring season.”
Both of the program’s Valorant teams made the playoffs and won their first-round competitions.
“Round one was an eye-opener and a hard-fought series,” said Jacob Garrity, senior captain of the undefeated Valorant White Team. “I’m so proud of this team for making it this far.”
One of SFU’s Overwatch teams made it to the playoffs, dropping a tight game in its postseason opener.
“While we might’ve lost, I am very proud of how close it was and how well we’ve come together as a team,” said Overwatch Red captain Veronica Crum.
The program’s sole Hearthstone player secured a spot in the quarterfinals.
The 6-2 Rocket League Red team played its first playoff game on Nov. 20.
“We have been making steady progress,” said senior captain Dan O’Hara. “We look to improve and make a run in the playoffs.”
The Super Smash Bros. Red Team also advanced to round two of playoffs.
