The lacrosse team picked up its first NEC win of the season in dominating fashion last weekend, defeating Merrimack, 17-7, at DeGol Field.
Bella Burke, Bella Fisher and Lizzie Fisher led the way in the victory over the Warriors. All three were named NEC Prime Performers earlier this week.
Burke recorded nine draw controls, five caused turnovers and four ground balls.
Bella Fisher, who was voted NEC Rookie-of-the-Year last season, showcased her offensive talents in Loretto last week. Across two games, the sophomore from Duxbury, Massachusetts recorded six goals, one assist and nine draw controls.
The Marketing major currently leads the team with 27 points (19 goals and eight assists). She ranks second in the NEC in shots-per-game and fourth in both goals and points-per-game.
“Scoring goals and creating opportunities for my teammates is what I love to do,” said Fisher. “It’s not just about individual success – it’s about helping the team win games and achieve our goals.”
Graduate student Lizzie Fisher also delivered a standout performance in the 10-goal victory over Merrimack. She scored six goals against the Warriors, showcasing her scoring prowess and playmaking ability.
Fisher’s six-goal performance against Merrimack ties her for 10th in school history for most goals scored in a match. The fifth-year player is enjoying a strong final season after being slowed by injuries earlier in her career.
The team will travel to Staten Island this weekend to face Wagner on Saturday at noon in an NEC match-up.
Burke believes that her team is positioned for more success.
“It’s all about communication and trust on the field,” said the sophomore Biology major. “We work hard together, supporting each other every step of the way.”
