Cross Country Teams Wrap Up Season

The men’s and women’s cross country teams have concluded their seasons, competing at the NEC Championship on Oct. 28, the Red Flash Rally on Nov. 6 and the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship on Nov. 11.

The NEC Championship and Red Flash Rally took place at B&D Acres in Tyrone and the Regional Championship was held at Penn State.

At the NEC Championship, seniors Monica Gregg and Zach Kohler both earned All-NEC honors. Gregg finished seventh in the 5K women’s race and Kohler earned a sixth-place finish in the 8K men’s competition.

The women’s team finished fifth overall at the NEC Championship and the men’s team placed sixth.

“I am so happy with how NECs went, finishing in seventh place with a solid personal record,” said Gregg, a Physical Therapy major and New York native.

“I am just trying to soak up as many fun memories with the team as I can. I am also very excited to start training for track.”

At the Red Flash Rally, the top finishers in the 4K race on the women’s side included Baylee Carpenter, Emma Fleck and Marezy Anderson.

On the men’s team, Drew McGee, Tyler Napora and Jude Martyak were the top three SFU finishers in the 6K race.

“It was a really great opportunity to race one more time,” said Isabella Leger, a freshman Nursing major from Pittsburgh. “I really enjoyed the small field and having the whole team there to support us on finishing out our season.”

On Nov. 11, the top seven runners from the SFU men’s and women’s teams traveled to Penn State to compete in the Regional Championship. Gregg finished first for the SFU women, recording a 116th place finish, followed closely by Quinn McElhenny, Naomi Hillen and Tess Helms.

On the men’s side, Kohler posed a 62nd place finish. Other top SFU finishers included Shane Curran, Matt Berzonsky and Dan Kelly.
