Sara Yunez has been named the head women’s soccer coach at the University. She becomes the 11th head coach of the program.

Before joining the staff at SFU, Yunez served one-year stints as an assistant coach at Saint Bonaventure (2021) and Eastern Kentucky (2020). She has also served as an assistant at Covenant and Houghton.

This is her first head coaching opportunity.

Yunez graduated from nearby Messiah. She earned Division III All-American honors as a fifth-year senior goalie in 2018. The Falcons advanced to the NCAA Division III national championship game in 2016.

“I really like that she is so young, because she is closer to us (in age) and understands how we are thinking,” said Tomke Dziesiaty, a freshman defender from Germany.

In 60 career games as a goalkeeper at Messiah, opposing teams scored just 14 goals on Yunez.

“I am really thankful for the trust they (SFU) have given me,” said Yunez.

The Flash finished 4-12-1 last season and 2-7-1 in the NEC.

“Our goal is to reach the playoffs next season and to have more shots on target,” said Dziesiaty.
