The men’s and women’s golf teams both opened their 2024-25 season earlier this month.
The men competed at the Red Bandana Invitational at Boston College on Sept. 1-2, while the women opened their fall campaign at the Bucknell Invitational last weekend (Sept. 6-8).
The SFU men finished 10th out of 11 teams at Boston College. Junior Toby Webb was the top Flash finisher at the season-opening event, placing 18th with a two-day total of 227. Freshman Alex Young was the next highest finisher for SFU, placing 36th with a 239.
“We have a great group of players who have experience from last year and a good mix with incoming freshmen,” said men’s head coach Jonathan Kulas.
“I was expecting a better result (at BC). It is something we can grow and improve on.”
Kulas’ team returns to action Sept. 30-Oct. 1 when it competes in a tournament at Cleveland State.
The women’s team finished 10th in a 13-team field at Bucknell last week. The top three finishers for head coach Chris Cascino’s team included junior McKenzie Gustas (34th – 239), sophomore Camille Gagnon (38th – 240) and junior Meghan Zambruno (53rd – 246).
“It was nice to be playing again, but I felt I can play a lot better,” said Gustas. “I am hoping to play much better in the next tournament.”
The next action for the women’s team is at Youngstown State on Sept. 22-23.
Both teams will compete at the Red Flash Invitational on Oct. 7-8. The two-day competition will be held at Sunnehanna Country Club in Johnstown.
“I look forward to representing Saint Francis in our home event,” said junior Kyle McClintock.
“It is a great opportunity for us to have team success on a course we are familiar with.”
