The men’s golf team took one last swing before the Northeast Conference Championships later this week when it competed alongside host Pitt-Johnstown at the Bedford Springs Invitational, April 22-23.
SFU placed fifth with a final score of 642 in a field that included UPJ, Mount Aloysius, UMass Amherst, Indiana-PA, American International, Bloomsburg and West Chester.
“We have a young team and we are trending up,” said senior Jackson Hoey.
Senior Nathan Godbout finished fourth at the two-day tournament. After firing a three-under-par 69 in the first round, the Vermont native posted an 82 in the second round to finish with a 151.
In the team’s previous outing at the Meadows Intercollegiate at Miami-OH, April 15-16, freshman Trent Meyers showcased his skills with a commendable final round four-over par. He tied with Godbout to finish 64th at Miami-OH.
The team’s performance was solid at this tournament, with Hoey, Lukas Cascino and Kyle McClintock also playing well.
The team is looking forward to the NEC Championships, April 26-28. The tournament will be held at the picturesque Calloway Resort and Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia, for the first time in league history.
