Four new members were elected to the University’s Board of Trustees this fall. The new members include Larry Nulton, Sarah Schroeder, Stephen Subasic and Bradley Walent.
“I appreciated their enthusiasm for Saint Francis,” said SFU President Father Malachi Van Tassell. “All four of them are brilliant people who are going to contribute greatly to our discussions.
“I’m excited to see how their expertise and contributions help to move Saint Francis forward.”
The members begin a four-year term that may be renewed up to four times. Their responsibilities include approving budgets and strategic plans and monitoring all University operations.
“They are a group of strategic-level thinkers, so they are looking out onto the horizon,” said Father Malachi. “They are asking ‘where is Saint Francis going? What can we do? How can we evolve and change with the times?’
“It is a strategic-level, decision-making board.”
Most of the current members of the Board of Trustees are SFU alumni. Its membership includes lawyers, accountants, medical and social work practitioners, a Pennsylvania appellate judge and a communications industry professional.
“Their backgrounds reflect some of the academic programs at Saint Francis,” said Father Malachi.
Two of the new board members are alumni of Saint Francis. Subasic graduated from the University in 1990 and currently serves as an Executive Coach and Human Resources Consultant with Bedwell Talent Advisory.
Walent graduated from SFU in 1996 and is a co-managing partner of Kayne Law Group in Columbus, Ohio.
Nulton is the founder of the Nulton Diagnostic and Treatment Center and Peerstar LLC, and he operates Nulton Aviation Services and Tri-State Charters.
Schroeder is a physician at the Vein and Lymphedema Clinic at Cardiology Associates of Altoona.
“The board helps to move the institution forward,” said Father Malachi. “I’m grateful for the work they do for our students.
“It is a good group of people who love the place and who want to see it thrive and be successful well into the future.”
