The Barbie and Ken 5K, an event sponsored by the Inter-Sorority Council, is set to take place on Oct. 21 at 9 a.m.
This themed 5K is inspired by the summer blockbuster “Barbie” movie and is being organized by the Greek Life Inter-Sorority Council. The race is dedicated to raising funds for the council’s philanthropy “Circle of Sisterhood,” which provides revenue to support girls’ education in Africa.
Elena Pontzius, the president of the Inter-Sorority Council, and Greek Life Graduate Assistant Laina Mastovich are leading the planning efforts for this event.
“This has been such an exciting opportunity to get to plan this with the councils,” said Mastovich. “I get to work with such passionate women who want to all come and help their philanthropy.”
Registration for the Barbie and Ken 5K is available below: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A044BAFAA2CA3F85-44494088-barbie#/
The sign-in table will open at 8 a.m. and the race begins at 9 a.m.
“Circle of Sisterhood” was founded in 2010. It includes 332 campus sorority communities.
The success of this inaugural race will determine whether it becomes an annual tradition.
“The idea may stand, but we are not sure if it will continue to be Barbie, but we like the idea of celebrating women,” said Pontzius.
Registration is open to everyone, including faculty members. The organizers are eager to see both women and men participating in the race.
“It will be fun, a day to celebrate being a woman,” said Pontzius. “I hope to see lots of familiar and new faces at our event.”
