The men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the Aubrey Shenk Invitational at Gettysburg on Oct. 14. The SFU women placed first in the 6K race among collegiate teams, while the men placed seventh in the 8K race.
This marks the second time in school history that the women’s team has won the Shenk Invitational, boding well for the team as it looks toward the NEC Championships on Oct. 28 at LIU.
Junior Tess Helms was the first SFU runner to cross the line, finishing in sixth place with a time of 22:26. Graduate student Monica Gregg and freshman Anna Quackenbush also finished in the Top 10.
“As a team, I feel that we raced really well,” said Helms. “We did a great job of grouping up together and working with each other to push ourselves.
“Looking toward the NEC meet, I think that this strategy will help us be successful.”
On the men’s side, junior Dan Kelly was the first SFU runner across the line, placing 38th with a time of 26:24.
“Everyone ran well and did what they came to do this weekend,” said Kelly. “This meet was a big confidence boost for the teams as we head into the conference championships.”
Other top finishers for the SFU men included freshman Aaron Tressler (46th) and Shane Curran (84th).
