Stonehill College Joins Northeast Conference

The Northeast Conference will be adding a new member in the 2022 fall sports season when Stonehill College joins the league.

Stonehill is located in Easton, Massachusetts.

Formerly a Division II school and member of the Northeast-10 Conference, the Skyhawks Athletics Program sponsors 23 sports (nine for men/14 for women).

Stonehill joins the league after Bryant University announced in March that it would be leaving the NEC and accepting an invitation to the America East Conference.

As it makes the transition to Division I, Stonehill will be ineligible to compete at NEC Championship events for four years, per NCAA rules.

“With Bryant leaving, we needed a school to take their place,” said SFU Associate Director of Athletics Jim Brazill.

Brazill said that in the current environment where many teams are changing leagues, discussions regarding possible new NEC members is always ongoing.

“There are always conversations about who we can add to the conference if a team leaves and they were first on that list,” said Brazill.

Stonehill’s most dominant program has arguably been its women’s cross country team, which has won 11 of the last 12 Northeast-10 Conference championships.

Easton is a roughly seven-and-a-half hour drive from Loretto.
