Many different proposals were discussed at the Student Government Association’s weekly meeting on Oct. 29.
Because it is SGA election season, there was discussion over the requirements to run for office.
Parliamentarian Jelana Boldziar proposed eliminating or reducing the petitioning element of running for the Senate.
To run for Senate, one must obtain signatures from 25 members from his/her constituency.
“I chose not run for the commuter chair when I was a freshman because I felt like finding 25 commuters would be difficult,” said Boldizar.
Other senators agreed with her sentiments. Several noted that they did not even run for Senate, but instead filled a vacated position, which does not need a petitioning sheet.
Sen. Evan Mardis said that he supported the petitioning sheet, noting that it helps “keep up with who you’re representing.”
Executive Vice President Abrielle Brown proposed eliminating the petitioning requirement for commuters, along with consideration of changing petitioning requirements for other Senate seats as well.
President Cole Weiland motioned for the discussion to be sent to the Constitutional Review Committee.
Donut Heaven hours of operation were also discussed at the meeting. A vote was passed to shorten the latter two nights of Donut Heaven, ending them at 10:30 p.m. instead of 11 p.m.
