“There are no current plans to change Frankie’s,” said Sen. Andrew Gudalis at the most recent Student Government Association meeting on Sept. 3.
The subject of Frankie’s Campus Club getting rebranded has been a hot topic on various social media forums in recent weeks. Many students have expressed their opposition to the idea of the club’s name getting changed to match the University’s new athletics mascot, Gubbio.
The potential name change was brought up by Sen. Evan Mardis, who said he is concerned about the possibility of this happening. Mardis argued that the current name honors SFU’s tradition and longtime identity.
According to Gudalis, there are no active plans to rebrand dining location.
Unlike Frankie’s, the campus bookstore is getting rebranded.
There will be a grand reopening ceremony for the store during Family Weekend, Sept. 25-27. The store’s new name and signage will be revealed at this event.
University officials asked SGA to generate ideas for the ceremony. Some ideas that were proposed at last week’s meeting included a T-shirt giveaway, cupcakes, and asking the marching band to deliver a drum roll at the reopening.
A ribbon cutting was suggested as well.
“For a ribbon cutting, we’d need big scissors,” remarked Sen. Mardis.
“And poppers,” said Sen. Gavin Ross.
