The women’s basketball team lost at Mercyhurst, 85-61, on Feb. 14.
Graduate student Aleah James (pictured left) led SFU with 13 points and four assists. Cassandra Hawthrone added 10 points and four rebounds. Shelby Ricks chipped in nine points, five rebounds and three assists.
Lena Walz led the Lakers with 26 points and eight rebounds. She made eight of 13 shots from three-point range. Walz leads the NEC in three-point percentage at 41 percent.
Saint Francis and Mercyhurst were relatively even in field goals made (MU 28, SFU 24) and rebounds (MU 30, SFU 36). The Red Flash shot 42 percent (24-for-57) from the floor, while the Lakers finished at 41 percent (28-for-68).
Mercyhurst scored 18 points off turnovers, compared to just six for SFU.
Saint Francis will play at LIU on Feb. 19 and at Wagner on Feb. 21. The Flash lost to LIU, 77-61, in the first match-up with the Sharks last month. The team defeated Wagner, 75-67, on Jan. 8 in Loretto.
SFU will return to the Stokes Center hardwood on Feb. 26 when it hosts Stonehill.
