SFU will celebrate Homecoming Weekend, with plenty of festivities planned, from Oct. 23-25.
The Student Activities Organization (SAO) is hosting several events during Homecoming Weekend. Ava Rhoads, president of SAO, thinks this weekend provides a great opportunity to strengthen the campus culture.
“Homecoming is so important to SFU because it brings everyone together as a community,” Rhoads said. “We come together to celebrate our seniors for Homecoming court, to cheer on our football players, and to enjoy SAO events with friends.”
This year’s Homecoming Weekend will feature a movie with the Biology Club on Friday, along with a nature walk and designing DIY flowerpots on Saturday.
“We chose nature/Earth for the (Homecoming) theme, so we centered some of the events around that,” Rhoads said.
Other events scheduled for Homecoming Weekend include a duck hunt, casino night, food vendors, the football game against Robert Morris and bingo night.
Natalie Floder, a sophomore Physician Assistant major, is excited for the weekend.
“I am most excited for the duck hunt,” Floder said. “Even though the chances of finding the winning duck are slim, it’s still fun to wander around campus.”
This week is also Mentorship Week at Saint Francis. Many alumni are returning to campus to discuss their careers and build relationships with current SFU students.
Sophomore Spanish and Secondary Education major Jen Spacht hopes to gain insight into the field of teaching from some of the alumni returning to Loretto.
“I am attending an event for English and Spanish majors and another to learn tips for a successful teaching career,” Spacht said.
“I hope to learn how to become a successful teacher and improve my linguistic skills.”
In addition to the football game against RMU on Saturday at 3 p.m., both the Red Flash men’s and women’s soccer teams also compete at home this weekend.
The women’s soccer team will host Chicago State at noon on Sunday and the men’s team will take on Fairleigh Dickinson following the women’s match at 3 p.m.
The Homecoming Parade begins on Saturday at 2 p.m.
