The School of STEAM hosted a student recognition ceremony on April 15.
Faculty members and administrators recognized students studying in various STEAM programs. More than 50 awards were presented at the event.
“The experience was fantastic,” said Art Remillard, Dean of the School of STEAM. “It’s truly a joy to organize something that celebrates all the incredible work our students do.”
Secondary Education and English major Madyn Allison was one of the students recognized for her achievements at the event. Allison was presented the Dr. Rodrique Labrie Award in American Literature.
“My favorite part was getting to support my fellow English majors,” said Allison. “It was great to watch them all succeed and get their flowers for their hard work.”
Dr. Jim Tackas delivered the keynote address at the event. Tackas holds a doctoral degree in Veterinary Medicine and is the founder and owner of the Ebensburg Animal Hospital.
“We chose Tackas because he is a 1982 alumnus who has remained deeply involved with the University as a member of our Board of Trustees,” said Remillard.
“His family also has a lasting legacy here, with the Biology Department named in honor of his parents, Dr. Wayne and Elizabeth Takacs.”
Tackas concluded his speech at the ceremony by reciting the poem “Anyway,” written by Mother Teresa.
“I thought Dr. Takacs delivered the perfect message: our lives are rarely linear,” said Remillard. “What we plan for and hope for doesn’t always work out the way we expect, but perseverance is key.”
