At this year’s iLead speaker, hosted by the Student Government Association, the Saint Francis University community welcomed alumnus Paul Mooney.

Mooney not only spoke about his success, but how he achieved it.  He spoke very highly of the university and its role in shaping him as a person. In one instance – met by oohs and ahhs from the audience – Mooney mentioned that he even met his wife while attending SFU.

Deciding which person to invite to speak to students was no easy task.

“We chose Mr. Mooney because of his involvement with Student Government while he was a student and because of all his achievements and accomplishments after graduating from Saint Francis,” explained SGA president, Alex Peruso.

During his presentation, Mooney traced through his life and pinpointed moments that helped him grow as a person.

“Mr. Mooney provided the students of Saint Francis University knowledgeable tips and steps to not only achieve success in their career paths but life, as well,” said junior Nathan Parrish. “As an alumni, his stories were relatable and made this iLead speaker a huge success.”

Mooney graduated from Bishop Eagan High School in Fairless Hills, PA in 1969. He then moved on to study at Saint Francis University.  Mooney graduated from SFU in 1973 with an accounting degree. From there, he began his career at Price Waterhouse which is located in Pittsburgh, PA.

At Price Waterhouse, Mooney aimed high and achieved Partner and Managing Partner of the Pittsburgh Audit Practice.  Mooney left the practice in 1997 and moved on to another chapter of his life. He was hired as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Corporation.  After retiring, Mooney served as a member of the Board of numerous organizations including, Mount Lebanon School District, Saint Francis University, the Pittsburgh Symphony, and the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy.

Most importantly, Mooney was not only successful in his career, but also in life with his fellow alumni and family, his wife Anne, four grown children and eight grandchildren.  Mooney spends his retirement days with a variety of hobbies such as fly fishing, bicycling and gardening.

This year’s iLead took place on Wednesday, January 22. ILead stands for Institute for Leadership Education by Alumni of Distinction.
