Members of the men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at both Penn State and Bucknell last weekend, with strong performances by SFU student-athletes at both venues.
Graduate student Rhoda Alaban-Tafon finished 15th in the 400 meters at Penn State in a time of 57.92. The nursing major is competing in her fifth season at SFU and is known for her long strides to close out races.
The Glen Burnie, Maryland native said she draws inspiration in her career from former LSU national champion sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson.
“Richardson is my inspiration because of her background and how everyone doubted her,” said Alaban-Tafon.
At Bucknell last weekend, senior David Niang won the 60-meter hurdles for the third time this season with a finals time of 8.26.
Freshman Anna Quackenbush also enjoyed a strong showing at Bucknell last weekend, finishing first in the 5000-meter run and second in the 3000.
Both the SFU men’s and women’s track and field teams will compete at Liberty on Saturday, Feb. 3.
