The track and field team’s season came to an abrupt close on Feb. 22 at the Northeast Conference Indoor Championship.

The men’s team placed sixth overall and the women placed fifth at the NEC Indoor Finals.

The Red Flash’s outdoor season was set to begin March 22 but due to the Coronavirus, all spring sports and practices have been canceled.

Cases of the virus have surfaced across the United States, causing universities across the country to move to online instruction for a period of time, or for the rest of the semester.

“I was at a loss for words,” said senior sprinter and Communications major Christian McFadden. “The season was going so good for me, and then it just ended like that.”

McFadden won the 2020 NEC indoor 60-meter dash title.

McFadden said that track and field head coach Doug Hoover thanked the teams for all they did for the program before the student-athletes headed home.

Due to the extreme circumstances of the Coronavirus Pandemic, the NCAA has granted another year of eligibility to spring sports student-athletes.
