Men’s Basketball Captures Second NEC Regular-Season Title in School History
The men’s basketball team has earned the top seed in this week’s Northeast Conference Tournament despite a 94-84 loss at Sacred Heart on Saturday, March 2, in its regular-season finale.
Saint Francis (16-13, 12-6) opens the NEC Tournament on March 6, hosting eighth-seeded Bryant at 7 p.m. at the Stokes Center.
Saint Francis shares the 2018-19 NEC regular-season title with Fairleigh Dickinson, but head coach Rob Krimmel’s team captured the top seed in the NEC Tournament through tiebreaker rules – SFU was 2-0 against third-place Robert Morris during the regular season.
Fairleigh Dickinson posted a 1-1 mark against RMU.
The only other time SFU has won the NEC regular-season title was in the 1990-91 season. Coincidentally, the Flash shared the regular-season league title with FDU that year.
The 1990-91 team would go on to win the NEC Tournament and face Arizona in the NCAA Tournament.
