Auction to raise money for athletics teams

The annual autumn Athletics Auction and Dinner will be held on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 5:30-9:30 p.m. in the Stokes Center. The money raised at the auction helps fund SFU’s athletics teams.

“Items being auctioned off were donated by the athletics teams, alumni, corporate sponsors and members of the Stokes Club,” said Margie McHenry, an Administrative Assistant in the Athletics Department.

Items being auctioned off include a variety of assorted gift baskets, tickets to Pittsburgh Penguins and Steelers games, a golf outing, a Stokes Club membership, as well as sports memorabilia signed by well-known athletes.

“We have baseball gear signed by Dick Groat and Bill Mazeroski, a football signed by Steelers player Dick Hoak, and tickets for a trip to the Poconos for whitewater rafting,” said McHenry.

The event will begin with a silent auction and dinner, followed by a live auction.

“The silent auction has the guests writing down their bids for the items they want throughout the night and during dinner,” said Susan Robinson Fruchtl, SFU’s Director of Athletics.

Guests with winning bids will be able to designate which athletics teams receive their money. This applies to both the silent and live auctions.

“The spoken auction will have an experienced auctioneer, who is a member of the Stokes Club, auctioning off the items,” said Robinson Fruchtl.
