Math Department celebrates Pi Day

The Mathematics Department celebrated Pi Day on March 14 in the lobby of the Science Center.

Since the first three digits of π are 3, 1 and 4, March 14 is recognized as Pi Day around the world.

Students exited their classrooms throughout the morning and visited the Science Center lobby, where they enjoyed slices of fresh pie.

“We’ve been having this event since the Math Department was created,” said the coordinator of Pi Day, Ying Li, an associate professor of mathematics at Saint Francis. “It’s a great event.”

Twenty-five pies were prepared for the event, including chocolate cream, coconut cream, blueberry, cherry, pumpkin, apple and lemon merengue.

“I made chocolate cream, pecan and cranberry pecan pie,” said Li.

Coffee was available with the pies.

“I love this event. Free, delicious pies and coffee in class time,” said math major Tongyao Hu, with a chocolate cream pie in his hand. “They are so good.”
