The men’s basketball team dropped a 69-64 decision at Central Connecticut State on Feb. 28 in its final game of the 2025-26 season.
The loss eliminated SFU from the Northeast Conference’s postseason tournament and marked the team’s last Division I game.
The University will join the Division III President’s Athletic Conference in 2026-27.
Chris Moncrief led Saint Francis with 16 points in the loss to the Blue Devils. Moncrief finished his SFU career with 460 points in 80 games.
Last season, he played a key role in leading the Red Flash to their second NEC title in program history and a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
Skylar Wicks (13) and Victor Payne (10) also finished in double figures for the Red Flash (7-24, 5-13 NEC) in the loss at CCSU.
Senior Gestin Liberis recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. It was his second double-double of the season and fourth in his career.
Darin Smith Jr. led the Blue Devils (18-11, 12-6 NEC) with 22 points and seven rebounds.
CCSU shot 50 percent (27-for-54) from the field, while the Red Flash shot 44 percent (24-for-55).
The game between the Blue Devils and Red Flash at CCSU’s Detrick Gymnasium was a rematch of the 2025 NEC championship game. The Red Flash defeated CCSU, 46-43, on March 11, 2025, to punch their ticket to last year’s Big Dance.
