The men’s basketball team fell short at Chicago State, 80-75, on Feb. 9 in NEC action. It marked the third straight close loss on the road for SFU in five days.
Saint Francis mounted a 28-9 run to pull within a point (76-75) of Chicago State with 10 seconds left, but it wasn’t enough to pull out the victory.
SFU played the game without its leading scorer, Skylar Wicks, and fellow starter Chris Moncrief. Both were suspended for a game following a postgame scuffle that happened at Le Moyne on Feb. 7.
Zion Russell led SFU in scoring at Chicago State, tying his career-high with 23 points. He added five assists and two steals. Ahmad Harrison scored a season-high 18 points against the Cougars and Gestin Liberis added a career-high 17 points.
Maryland native Cam Tweedy recorded his first career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Marcus Tankersley and Braelon Bush led Chicago State with 19 points each. Five CSU players scored in double figures.
Both teams shot well from the field. The Red Flash shot 45 percent (24-for-53), while the Cougars finished at 44 percent (24-for-55).
SFU hurt its chances by turning the ball over 18 times. Chicago State’s bench outscored the Red Flash bench, 40-1.
