Jalen Harriet Jr. is the 2026 recipient of the Shields School of Business’ Dare-to-Dream Award.
The award is presented annually to a Black or African-American student who exemplifies and promotes Martin Luther King Jr.’s values of service, equality, justice and selflessness.
Other criteria include demonstrating kindness and a respect for others. SSOB faculty members nominate candidates for the award and vote on the winner.
Winners of the award receive $500.
Harriet is a junior Communications major from Charlotte, North Carolina. He serves as a member of the Troubadour staff and works as a sideline reporter and camera operator at Red Flash football and basketball games streamed on NEC Front Row.
He is also active in Esports (Madden Team) and Greek Life (Psi Upsilon) at the University.
“Jalen is a good student and a positive person and he is involved in a lot of extracurriculars,” said Professor of Communications Pat Farabaugh.
“He treats others with kindness and is always willing to pitch in, whether it’s running a camera at one of our sporting events or helping someone in one of our classes.
“He is very deserving of this award.”
