The men’s basketball team defeated Chicago State, 81-60 on Jan. 23, at the Stokes Center.
Skylar Wicks led the team with 20 points and 11 rebounds, posting his third double-double of the season. Senior Chris Moncrief added a season-high 18 points for SFU (6-14, 4-3 NEC).
Zion Russell recorded his first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Ahmad Harrison – who hit a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer to defeat Stonehill on Jan. 19 – had eight points and a career-high eight assists.
SFU shot 74 percent (17-for-23) from the floor in the first half against CSU. It marked the first time the team shot better than 70 percent in a half in nine years.
C.J. Ray led the Cougars (2-18, 0-7 NEC) with 21 points. For the game, Saint Francis shot 55 percent from the floor (28-for-51), compared to 36 percent (24-for-67) for Chicago State. The Red Flash knocked down 11 three-pointers.
SFU recorded 23 assists on 28 field goal attempts, the most against a Division I opponent since 2019.
“That was our best defensive performance of the year,” said Red Flash head coach Luke McConnell.
The Red Flash and Cougars will not wait long until they play again. The two teams face one another in Chicago on Thursday. The game is at 7 p.m. EST and will be streamed on NEC FrontRow.
SFU will be back in action at home on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m. against New Haven.
