The men’s basketball team rallied back from an early deficit and won a thriller over Stonehill, 63-61, on Jan. 19.
Senior Ahmad Harrison sunk a buzzer-beating three-pointer to lead SFU to its third NEC win of the season. The Baltimore native finished the game with a team-high 16 points.
Chris Moncrief (15) and Skylar Wicks (11) also scored in double figures for SFU (5-14, 3-3 NEC). Wicks added eight rebounds and six steals in the win.
Saint Francis trailed 25-20 at halftime, but turned in a strong second half, scoring 43 points over the game’s final 20 minutes.
The Red Flash scored 26 points off turnovers in the game, while Stonehill (6-13, 3-3 NEC) had just two.
The Skyhawks shot 43 percent from the floor (19-for-44), compared to 35 percent (20-for-57) for SFU. Stonehill also outrebounded the Flash, 40-31, but Saint Francis committed just seven turnovers, which was key to the victory.
Chas Stinson (19 points) and Hermann Koffi (18) led the Skyhawks, who saw their two-game winning streak snapped.
“Awesome gritty win. We talked at halftime about being resilient,” said Red Flash head coach Luke McConnell. ”On a day when it felt like nothing was falling, we kept challenging and pushing each other.
“I’m really proud of these guys fighting through to get the win.”
SFU completes its three-game homestand on Friday, Jan. 23, against Chicago State. The game tips off at 7 p.m. and will be streamed on NEC FrontRow.
