The men’s basketball team lost at preseason favorite LIU, 67-63, on Jan. 10.
Saint Francis led 38-31 at halftime. The game came down to the final minute when SFU’s Skylar Wicks stepped out of bounds and turned the ball over with the Red Flash trailing by two with seconds to play.
Wicks led Saint Francis (4-13, 2-2 NEC) in scoring with 21 points. The redshirt senior added four rebounds, two steals and a block.
Wicks has scored in double figures in 12 of the 14 games he has played in this season.
Jamal Fuller led the Sharks with 23 points and Greg Gordon posted a double-double (22 points/12 rebounds). LIU scored 25 second-chance points, while the Red Flash had just four, and the Sharks outrebounded SFU, 49-23.
Saint Francis shot 23-for-53 (43 percent) from the floor, while the Sharks shot 41 percent (25-for-61).
Ralph Martino Jr. added 15 points and three steals for the Flash. The Maryland native has scored in double figures in each of the last two games. Victor Payne was also in double figures with 10 points. Payne went two for two from behind the arc.
The Red Flash will host CCSU in Loretto on Jan. 17. The game is at 2 p.m. and will be streamed on NEC FrontRow.
