The men’s basketball team defeated Wagner on Staten Island, 71-69, on Jan. 8.
Senior Chris Moncrief scored a season-high 15 points in the victory. Moncrief added five rebounds and three steals for the Red Flash (4-12, 2-1 NEC), who posted their first road win of the season.
SFU trailed 60-53 with seven minutes left in the second half before going on a 18-9 run to close the game. Seven different Saint Francis players scored in the game-turning run.
Ahmad Harrison led the team with 16 points. He made five of eight shots from the field. Sophomore Ralph Martino Jr. also had a solid game with 10 points, four assists and three steals.
Skylar Wicks led the Flash with nine rebounds and a career-high seven assists.
John Awoke scored a team-high 12 points for the Seahawks (6-8, 1-2 NEC).
SFU and Wagner were almost even in shooting from the floor. Saint Francis went 24-for-53 (45 percent), while the Seahawks shot 44 percent (26-for-59).
Red Flash head coach Luke McConnell became the first SFU head men’s basketball coach to win his NEC road debut.
SFU’s next game is at LIU on Jan. 10. The game is at 4 p.m. and will be streamed on NEC FrontRow.
