The men’s basketball team lost its NEC opener to Le Moyne, 84-58, on Jan. 2 in Loretto.
Zion Russell led the Red Flash with 12 points, five assists, three steals and two rebounds.
Saint Francis scored the game’s first five points, but the Dolphins closed out the first half on an 18-5 run to build a 39-27 lead at the intermission.
Samuel Hincapie led Le Moyne with 18 points. He made eight of 12 shots from the field and grabbed six rebounds.
The Dolphins shot 55 percent from the floor (32-for-58), compared to 32 percent field goal shooting (19-for-59) for SFU.
Le Moyne (6-8, 1-0 NEC) scored 34 points in the paint, while SFU managed just 12.
Sophomore Victor Payne had 11 points, five rebounds and two steals for the Flash, which won the NEC’s postseason title last season.
Skylar Wicks added nine points and seven rebounds for Saint Francis (2-12, 0-1 NEC).
“When things go bad, you have to lean on your family,” said Red Flash head coach Luke McConnell. “Sometimes we get into superhero mode, and we think that we can do it on our own.
“We cannot win basketball games that way.”
Saint Francis will look to bounce back when it hosts FDU on Sunday, Jan. 4. The game tips off at 4 p.m. and will be streamed on NEC FrontRow.
