The men’s basketball team (2-7) recorded its second victory of the season against Penn State-Shenango on Dec. 3, pounding the Lions, 100-41.
Freshman Paris Papadatos, junior Trey Weiand and sophomore Ralph Martino Jr. all had career nights in the runaway victory.
Papadatos led the team with 19 points in just his second game in a Red Flash uniform. Weiand added 17 points in 24 minutes of action. Both guards knocked down three three-pointers.
Weiand is a walk-on who originally came to SFU to play football.
“Trey just embodies everything we want when you wear the Saint Francis uniform,” said SFU head coach Luke McConnell.
Martino had a solid game with 12 points and seven rebounds. He made six of his 10 shots from the floor.
Maryland native Zion Russell scored 12 points in the 59-point win and senior Gestin Liberis grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
Sophomore Victor Payne had a career-high nine rebounds, and also chipped in eight points, three assists, a block and a steal.
Sophomore Melvin Weaver scored his first collegiate points late in the game against the Lions (0-4).
SFU finished the game with 64 rebounds. It marked the first time the team grabbed more than 60 boards in a game since 2021.
SFU returns to action on Dec. 7, traveling to Radford. The game against the Highlanders tips off at 2:30 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
