The men’s basketball team lost to Belmont, 94-57, in the opening round of the Coconut Hoops Tournament in Fort Myers, Florida, on Nov. 24.
The Bruins grabbed the lead against the Red Flash (0-5) three minutes into the game and did not relinquish it the rest of the way.
SFU went on a 11-0 run to end the half and trailed by just eight (36-28) at the intermission. The Bruins doubled up the Flash in scoring (58-29) in the second half, however, to run away with the win.
Senior Ahmad Harrison had a season-high 17 points and three steals in the loss. The SFU guard hit on all three of his three-point attempts.
Skylar Wicks had another strong performance for the Flash, scoring 16 points and grabbing seven rebounds. The Jersey City, New Jersey native is averaging a team-best 18.6 points per game this season.
Freshman Brandon Russell matched his career-high with six points in the loss.
SFU will face Troy in the consolation game of the Coconut Hoops Tournament on Wednesday in the first-ever match-up between the two teams. The game will tip-off at 11 a.m.
