The football team dropped its final home game of the season on Nov. 15, falling to LIU, 10-3.
The loss marked the last Division I football game to be played at DeGol Field. Saint Francis will move to Division III in the 2026-27 season. The 12 seniors on head coach Chris Villarrial’s team were recognized before the game against the Sharks.
The SFU defense turned in a dominating performance against LIU, giving up just three points on a field goal in the second quarter. LIU’s only other points in the game came on a pick-six by Marshall Washington.
Sophomore Geno Calgaro led the Flash defensive effort with 14 tackles last weekend. He now has 108 on the season, a total that leads the NEC. Fellow linebacker Colin Douglas also delivered a strong performance, recording seven tackles in the loss to the Sharks.
SFU’s three points came on a 40-yard field goal by Mac Plummer on the opening drive of the second half. The Flash opened the second half with a splash play. Kick returner Jahmil Perryman fielded the second-half kickoff and then handed the ball to freshman Lukas Gilland, who raced up the LIU sideline for a 47-yard gain. Nine plays later, Plummer converted on the field goal attempt.
Running back Raphael Ekechi had an 11-yard run to open the scoring drive and finished the game with 51 yards rushing on 12 carries. Jeff Hoenstine started the game at quarterback for the Red Flash (0-10, 0-6 NEC), but left the field due to injury in the first quarter and did not return. Nick Whitfield came on in relief at QB and finished the game seven-for-18 for 36 yards, no touchdowns and one interception.
Saturday’s game against Stonehill kicks off at 1 p.m. and will be streamed on NEC FrontRow.
